AN AIRBUS A380 test superjumbo is today due to fly to Bogota, Colombia, at the start of a series of flights as part of its technical route proving.

The jet, powered by the new Engine Alliance GP7000 engines, aims to clock up 150 hours of Òtypical airlineÓ continuous operation, visiting destinations in South America, North America, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. The same tours were successfully completed by test aircraft powered by Rolls Royce Trent 900 engines last year.

Tests will cover, amongst other things, checks on standard aircraft maintenance and behaviour, as well as typical airport operations and compatibility, confirming the aircraft's readiness for entry into service.
