INNOCENTS IS BLISS
By Micki L. H. Phillips Tuesday, October 11, 2011OOL…..What’s missing? I learned this valuable lesson one summer day in Florida when the neighbors grandblessing, four year old Bailie, invited me over for a dip in her grandparents’ pool. Being (ahem) a couple (fingers crossed) of pounds extra, I chose to swim in jogging pants and a tee shirt, with matching footies to complete my ensemble. Baillie wore a 2 piece bikini that would pass as bracelets on me.
After imming for two hours, Bailie suddenly stood motionless with a solemn expression on her sweet, innocent, little, cherub face. Concerned I inquired, “What’s wrong?”. Her older brother, Joshua, announced, “Oh nothing. She is just “relieving ” herself in the pool.” NOW I had a solumn expression on MY face with a question mark (light bulb) above MY head.
I asked if this statement were true, as I noticed the temperature of the pool rising. Baillie looked SHARPLY to her right ( apparently pleading the 5th). I rephrased the question…..” If you EVER need to go to the “lockerroom”, PLEASE use your grandma’s bathroom as I would wait for her return.” Baillie looked to her EXTREME left.
Finally, looking “flushed” myself and feeling as the interrogation was too confusing or embarrassing for her, I bluntly asked, “Do you NEED to go to the restroom?”
Giving up her Miranda Rights, she proudly replied…..“Not anymore!”
