EASTER SEASON….THE GAME OF LIFE
By Micki L. H. Phillips Friday, February 24, 2012As a child, I loved the game MONOPOLY, especially collecting money while passing “GO”, landing on “free parking”, and “charging” for rent. I was optimistic on picking cards from the"Community Chest” but apprehensive on the “Chance” pile.
Over time, it occurred to me, all board, card, TV, and childhood “interaction” games are preparing us for the GAME OF LIFE.
Starting with RED ROVER, we learn to be neighborly, hospitable, and accepting. MOTHER MAY I and SIMON SAYS teaches to obey rules, listen to authority, and practice patience.
We learn from DODGE BALL- keep your eyes open, your mouth shut, and your feet a-moving (that red ball SMARTS!). My personal favorite, TETHER BALL- you may hit with all your might, but be alert, as it may return from behind and wrap you around your NECK.
From SOLITAIRE and OLD MAID, makes us aware that we may not marry. Games like THE DATING GAME ( I’m “dating” my age) TROUBLE, WAR, and 52 CARD PICK-UP, show us the effects of relationships/choosing to marry/ raising children.
TWISTER: life’s un-expectancies, OPERATION: sickness and diseases do exist.
Some of us play POKER, LOTTO, YAHTZEE (involving taking a gamble ) GO FISH, HOPSCOTCH (avoiding responsibility and bills), RED LIGHT|GREEN LIGHT (advancing dishonestly) DOMINO’S (building an empire on our own, then the first bump levels it) HIGH HO CHERRY-O ( misspelling of the 1st work EXPLAINS that one).
At times, we feel like “CRAPS” (dice game), we feel ROOKed. Sometimes we are in JEOPARDY, praying for THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE.
Many, many times we are SORRY. But the truth be, we are all individuals contestants on SURVIVOR.
When we graduate to heaven, we meet the MASTERMIND. HE doesn’t play LET’S MAKE A DEAL or THE PRICE IS RIGHT. HE sponsors shows like TO TELL THE TRUTH, THIS IS YOUR LIFE, CONCENTRATION, YOU BET YOUR LIFE.
HE boycotts FAMILY FEUD, PASS WORD (gossip), THE JOKER’S WILD (the adversary), and BATTLESHIP (un-forgiveness).
HE is the CREATOR of a show called ‘WHO WANTS TO HAVE ETERNAL LIFE?” answered by a card game called “UNO” meaning one.....THAT ONE is JESUS CHRIST...BINGO!
