Pabst took home $1,600 and won a yearlong modeling contract

Citrus Heights pooch named World’s Ugliest Dog

Underbite? Well, yeah, but he’s got a great personality. He’s also just been named the World’s Ugliest Dog for 2009. This unlikely celebrity, Pabst, named for the beer, won over the crowd at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma this past weekend to take the championship title.

The four-year-old mixed-breed dog hails from Citrus Heights. He and his owner, Miles Egstad, were newcomers to the competition this year. Pabst beat out the contest’s ever-popular troupe of dogs from the Chinese Crested breed that always make up the vast majority of entrants. Along with the title of World’s Ugliest Dog, Pabst took home $1,600 and won a yearlong modeling contract.

House of Dog, an online store that sells everything from collars to carriers, sponsored this year’s event. With all of the great prizes that were bestowed on him, Pabst found himself living the House of Dog motto, “it’s good to be a dog”. Celebrity judges for the contest included Karen Halligan, known for television appearances on Groomer Has It, Dog Tales, Animal Rescue 911 and Dogs 101. Jon Provost, formerly Timmy on the TV show Lassie, and Sonoma-Marin Fair board member Birna Sobel rounded out the judging panel...more
