Drug money hurts commerce, Dominican business leader says
By Admin Tuesday, March 16, 2010SANTO DOMINGO. – The president of the National Business Council (Conep), warned Sunday that laundered money from drug trafficking is threatening the activity of formal businesses and urged the authorities to continue to fight it.
Lisandro Macarrulla said the injection of illicit capitals in economic activities creates a competitive advantage against the formal business sector and regulated activities, since it desplaces the people who do business legally and which require a margin of profit to justify the investment and the risk.
He urged for continued efforts to confront drug trafficking and corruption.
