Women in their 40s don’t need mammograms, panel says
By AdminMost women younger than 50 don’t need mammograms and self exams are worthless in lowering the breast cancer death rate, according to new screening guidelines from a panel of experts in preventive medicine.
The recommendations released today by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force signal a major shift in women’s health care.
Previous recommendations called for women 40 and older to receive annual mammograms, or X-rays taken of breast tissue to detect cancerous cells. Now, the task force says mammograms are of certain benefit only to women 50 and older, and then only every other year… more
