La Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos está presionando al gobierno estadounidense para que éste efectúe la “completa abolición” del embargo comercial y “elimine sistemáticamente” todas las restricciones actualmente existentes contra Cuba comunista. Los obispos alegan que con esos pasos unilaterales se beneficiaría sobre todo a los cubanos más “simples” y a los más “marginalizados”, se abriría el camino para una “mayor libertad”, inclusive religiosa, y se contribuiría a mejorar la situación de los “derechos humanos”.
